Caring Without Carrying is a continuing education training for Peer Specialists and Peer Specialist Supervisors that explores how to provide compassionate support while maintaining healthy emotional boundaries. Peer support is rooted in authentic connection and mutuality, yet many Peer Specialists struggle with balancing empathy and responsibility when supporting people through significant challenges.
This training examines the difference between caring about someone and carrying responsibility for their choices, outcomes, or recovery. Participants will explore common patterns that contribute to emotional exhaustion, compassion fatigue, and burnout, while identifying strategies that support sustainability in peer work. Through reflection, discussion, and practical application, participants will learn how to remain engaged, hopeful, and supportive without losing sight of their own wellness and recovery.
